BONKAR: De allereerste Molukse Stand-Up Comedy Show!

In this rich performance evening, the audience is invited to experience the creativity and artistry of the third-year students from the dance department of Fontys Dance Arts in Context.
Each student brings their own unique set of skills and perspectives: their own creative bag to unpack and share with the audience. The programme features a selection of short pieces choreographed by the students themselves, alongside two longer dance works by the invited makers: Nick Coutsier - staging the work of Eastman/Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui - and Fredrika “Freddie” Burvall - creating a new original work. Both of the works are developed in close collaboration with the students.
Nick Coutsier began his training in hip-hop and house before graduating from the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp. He has been part of Eastman, contributing to numerous works directed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui over the past seven years. Nick has been working with the students to create a performance inspired by “Manifest”, a piece originally created by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui for the Eastman company in Australia, where Nick worked as a choreographic assistant. Drawing on the principles and movement language of the Eastman company, he is now reimagining the work together with the students. The new creation explores questions of identity, values, and conviction. It questions who we are, what we stand for and what we want to change. It challenges the relationship we have with the people in power and explores how we can grow and work together in different situations.
Fredrika “Freddie” Burvall is a Swedish choreographer, dancer, and project leader based in the Netherlands. Her work is fueled by a deep love for House dance and the way movement, music, and social cultures collide. Rather than seeing dance as just performance, Fredrika explores it as a mental and emotional process, looking at how moving our bodies changes how we feel, process life, and connect with the people around us. Her background is a blend of formal training and cultural immersion, from Åsa Folkhögskola to École des Sables in Senegal and the house dance scene in New York. Whether she’s organising community jams in Rotterdam or developing play-based movement through her project SoWePlay, Fredrika’s goal remains the same: to use the power of collective experience to bring people together. Her creation with our students, assisted by Wesley Rommy, is no exception. Rooted in House dance language, the performance explores the paradox of the club: the deeply internal experience of moving within your own body while simultaneously connecting to others through shared rhythm, sensation, and collective energy.

Finally, Carte Blanche is also an opportunity for the students to present themselves as makers. As part of the evening, solos and group pieces created and performed by students take the stage, allowing them to share their own artistry and voice.
(Note: each evening, different works will be presented, so depending on the performance you attend, the programme of student choreographies may vary.)
